What is a gasket?

The gasket is made of paper, rubber sheet or copper sheet and placed between two planes to strengthen the sealing. In order to prevent fluid leakage, it is a sealing element arranged between the static sealing surfaces.

Gasket is a mechanical seal between two objects, which is usually used to prevent pressure, corrosion and natural thermal expansion, cold contraction and leakage of pipeline between two objects. Since machined surfaces cannot be perfect, irregularities can be filled with shims. Gaskets are usually made of sheet materials, such as pad paper, rubber, silicone rubber, metal, cork, felt, neoprene, nitrile rubber, glass fiber or plastic polymer (such as polytetrafluoroethylene). Gaskets for specific applications may contain asbestos.

A washer is a loophole (usually in the middle) in a thin plate (usually circular) and is usually a threaded fastener for distributing the load. Other uses are as spacer, spring (Belleville gasket, wave gasket), wear pad, pre display device, lock device. Rubber gaskets are also used in faucets (valves) to cut off the flow of liquid or gas. Rubber or silicon gaskets can also be used to reduce fan vibration. Generally, the outer diameter of the gasket is about twice the inner diameter.
